Journey To The Center Of Mars
Huntsville AL (SPX) Feb 26, 2010
February 24, 2010: Mars rover Spirit has tenaciously swept, scraped, and squeezed secrets from the forbidding surface of Mars for 6 years. Now at an impasse, up to its belly in sand, it has struggled to tilt its solar panels toward the sun and collect just enough power to survive the perilously cold Martian winter. If Spirit can make it through to spring, the feisty robot will prove it's still in the game-by solving the mysteries of the Martian core. Unlocking those secrets will require the guile ... read more

Colony Of Humans On Moon Possible In Future
Thiruvananthapuram, India (PTI) Feb 19, 2010
With the discovery of water on the moon, there was a distinct possibility of humans setting up a colony in the nearest satellite from the Earth, former ISRO chairman G Madhavan Nair has said. The Chandrayaan-1 mission's finding that large quantities of water were present in the polar region of the moon opened up the possibility of splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen, Nair said at the ... more

New Views For Space Tourists
Sydney, Australia (SPX) Feb 18, 2010
NASA's recent installation of a cupola on the International Space Station has caught the eyes of the world. It's appropriate, considering that the cupola itself is an eye on the world. The cupola is a small blister on the side of the recently installed Tranquility module, which gives panoramic views of the space station, the Earth below, and space itself. This will allow astronauts to insp ... more

Spirit Parks For The Winter
Pasadena CA (JPL) Feb 17, 2010
Spirit is now parked for the winter in the embedded area called "Troy" on the west side of Home Plate. The last winter-preparatory movement of the rover was commanded on Sol 2169 (Feb. 8, 2010). The rover was commanded to flatten the suspension system on the right side and accentuate the suspension wheelie on the left side, all to enhance northerly tilt. Very little change in tilt was achieved. At this point, the project is now adjusting various rover parameters and positioning t ... read more
