Accident at Swedish training ground injures 7: armed forces

The Swedish Armed Forces said Thursday that seven people had been injured after an accident at a military firing range in central Sweden, with media reporting an explosion at the area.

"There was an accident just after 4:00 pm (1400 GMT) at the Krak firing range," armed forces spokesman Mikael Agren told AFP, adding that seven people had been injured.

Agren also said police were treating the incident as a workplace accident.

Swedish media reported that rescue services had been called to the area following reports of an explosion, but Agren said he could not confirm the nature of the accident.

Newspaper Aftonbladet said it had received reports that an explosion during the clearing of "old unexploded ammunition".

Broadcaster SVT reported that five of the injured were being treated in intensive care.
