Comtech continues Blue Force Tracking support

A real-time battle command and situational awareness system is to continue to receive sustainment support from Comtech Mobile Datacom Corporation.

Support of the U.S. Army's Force XXI Battle Command Brigade and Below - Blue Force Tracking program, or BFT-1, will be for one year with two option years.

The base year is estimated to be worth $13.6 million. If all options are exercised, the total value would be a maximum of $38.2 million, said Comtech Telecommunications Corp., parent company of Comtech Mobile Datacoom Corporation.

Under the award, the company will provide engineering services and satellite network operations on a cost-plus-fixed-fee basis and program management services on a firm-fixed-price basis.

"We are pleased that Comtech and the U.S. Army will continue to work together to sustain this critical worldwide military communications system," said Fred Kornberg, president and chief executive officer of Comtech Telecommunications Corp. "The receipt of these contracts further demonstrates the ongoing importance of the U.S. Army's BFT-1 satellite tracking communication system."

Comtech also reports that the Army issued a separate contract to continue to license certain intellectual properties of the company. The products the Army is licensing were not disclosed but the service will pay $10 million for a one-year period and a similar amount for each of two option years. After March 31, 2017, the Army will have limited non-exclusive right to use the intellectual property with no additional license fee.
