by Richard Tomkins Istanbul, Turkey (UPI) May 6, 2015 UPI

A 4x4 armored vehicle with amphibious capabilities has been debuted by FNNS Defense Systems of Turkey, a joint venture firm of BAE Systems and Nurol Holdings.

The PARS 4x4 is designed for special operational roles such as advanced surveillance, anti-tank and command-and-control. Features include a low center of gravity, fully independent suspension system, ABS-assisted hydraulic disc brakes, low ground pressure and increased angles of approach and departure.

The vehicle can climb slopes of 70 percent, has a central tire inflation system, a maximum speed of 74.5 miles per hour on asphalt and a range of nearly 435 miles.

"The body of the vehicle is made of ballistic material, which provides protection against mines and improvised explosives," FNNS said. "The vehicle is especially noteworthy due to its load carrying capacity, its open architecture features and the way it was designed to accommodate the equipment that is used in the vehicle in order to carry out different missions and meet user requirements."

The PARS 4x4 was introduced earlier this week at the IDEF 2015 defense exhibition in Istanbul.
