Avionics components for enhanced targeting by F/A-18 E/F fighters and EA-18G electronic attack planes are being provided by Harris Corporation.
The two-year contract for the upgrade to U.S. Navy and Australian Super Hornets and Growlers was issued by the U.S. Navy and is worth $29 million.
"The F/A-18 brings critical Navy fighter and electronic warfare capabilities for the U.S. and key allies such as Australia," said Ed Zoiss, president, Electronic Systems, Harris Corporation. "Upgrading the mission- and image-processing prowess of the platform will help ensure that it continues to be the primary fighter aircraft for the U.S. Navy."
Harris said the avionics for upgrading are part of the Distributed Targeting System and will improve the aircraft's networking capabilities, enhance targeting precision and shorten the time from sensing a target and firing a weapon.
Additional contract and details on the components being supplied were not disclosed by Harris Corporation.
