Atlantis heads back to Earth on final mission

The space shuttle Atlantis undocked Sunday from the International Space Station (ISS) and headed back to Earth to complete its final mission after successfully delivering tons of supplies. The shuttle uncoupled from the orbiting space laboratory at 11:22 am (1522 GMT) after its six-member crew unloaded the last equipment, which included a crucial communications antenna, power storage batteries and a radiator. US astronauts completed Monday the first of three planned spacewalks from the shuttle Atlantis a day after the craft docked with the International Space Station. BP says tube is containing one fifth of oil spill

BP said Monday that about 20 percent of the oil gushing into the Gulf of Mexico is being swallowed up by its insertion tube system and no longer feeding a giant slick off Louisiana. The British energy giant also said it was gearing up for an operation called a "top kill" to inject tonnes of heavy drilling "mud" into the well to stanch the flow before permanently sealing it with cement. Boeing has provided critical parts that Space Shuttle Atlantis will carry to the International Space Station (ISS) when the orbiter launches on the 32nd and final flight of its quarter-century career. The parts include six replacement batteries and a space-to-ground antenna (SGANT) with accompanying boom assembly.
